Pre building
New Years Day we went to the property and found the stream running!
We can hear the stream from the upper main area too! What a great sound!
I've been clearing out a few of the sickly rose apple trees here and there... We covered part of the hill in back, by the swing, to kill the grass and create dirt for a garden...
in January, we happened upon a real RV for sale and now have a real house! Equipped with propane stove and fridge... We took the tents down, with some help from the wind... and moved the rv.
It's not a home until you get some 4 legged guys. That's Stubbie on the bed
We would have been happy just in the RV but they are not "legal" homes in Hawaii.
We pulled the black van closer and built a patio, with pallets and plywood, between them and covered the space with a little pull out roof.. surrounding it with fencing for the cattery...
We had found the black van for sale, the end of 2008, Came equipped with a small bed and some shelving too... .
We decided to hire a friend to help with the cattery, since we have so little time... We are planning on putting a cage between the two RVs in the back to start.. Just using four foot tall chain link., which we got for free
Shaun found a used Onan propane generator on Craigslist... We have Power! We had to buy another shed to put it in... The picture is Shaun starting to put it up, and in 2 days almost finished it..
Here's Shaun finishing the generator shed.... and me, making sure the hammock still works properly...
Keep out the riff raff
someone actually came in and stole our old washing machine and some tools one day!
We have collected a couple trees.... A fig tree from Ruben, although it is used to hot weather... A couple Plumerias from the plant at the office... A Cola tree.... yep! Lowes had it on sale so I thought it would be fun to try and grow... They also had a tree called Black Sapote on clearance.... Chocolate Fruit! I had to try that one!
We moved everything to the other side of the yard
Pallets can be picked up for free a lot of places... They make good platforms and have many other uses
Craigslist and facebook marketplace are great for freebies and used items
OFF GRID! We needed a cell phone booster, since our cell phones don't work that great there... and some form of electricity to get us by until we can put in a nice solar system. Not sure about internet yet...
Sadly, crime is everywhere. Protect your stuff! Put your name on it. Lock it up! The police caught the guy who did it, but we could only get back what we proved was ours! (There was paint on some tools, that I could show matched something I recently painted, but there was nothing on the washing machine, so the thief got to keep that!)
